The Langkloof, which comprises the Kouga and Kromme catchments, lies to the south of the Baviaanskloof. This region is a key area for pome fruit production, South Africa’s fourth largest agricultural export. The vegetation is predominantly Fynbos, thus part of the Cape Floristic Region — one of the world’s six floral kingdoms.

The surrounding Kouga and Tsitsikamma mountain ranges serve as crucial water sources. These mountainous areas are less suitable for agriculture and pome fruit production is concentrated in just 5% of the area, in valley floor. The mountains are home to wild honeybush, which is naturally occurring and harvested for herbal tea. Our efforts in the Langkloof have been focused on enhancing the sustainability of the local honeybush industry, in tandem with managing invasive tree species and implementing fire management strategies.
